So while the sweepstakes may be worded in such a way as to suggest that a purchase is required to enter, there’s almost certainly a clause buried in the terms and conditions that explains how to participate without buying anything.

The Deer Valley Resort spared no expense when they designed and built the Empire Canyon Lodge. It’s especially spectacular to look at when the freshly fallen snow has blanketed the peaks and valleys of the roof.
Empire Canyon Lodge - Deer Valley Resort
From the inside you’ll appreciate the wood and natural stone materials. The massive timber frame construction that supports the structure is like being in a skiing cathedral. This premium construction commercially demands multi purpose usage in order to make a return on investment. The question to consider is: After the sun has gone down and the skiers have retired for the day what are the options for a 25,000+ square foot ski lodge at the base of Empire Canyon?
The Deer Valley Resort stepped up and created a luxury dining experience like no other in North America. They opened Fireside restaurant, which is a European Alps-inspired winter-dining experience.
The restaurant is located in the lodge’s daytime cafeteria and utilizes all four fireplaces to cook the food over open hearths. The space can easily morph into a fine dining venue because of the over-the-top interior design. This concept would seem out of place otherwise.
Empire Fireplace
The main dining room is situated in front of the massive Empire Fireplace. It looks like it could have come out of a European Castle. This is your first stop on your way through the Alps tonight. You’ll delight in the fire warmed Swiss Raclette Cheese. Nearby is an assortment of Italian and Swiss meats, steamed potatoes, house made fig mustard and strawberry chutney. Yum.
Fireside - Empire Fireplace
North Fireplace
Next up on our journey is the North Fireplace. The lighting in this space is subdued and you’ll feel like you’re actually in a medieval kitchen. The stews simmer over the open hearth. They’re made from fresh veal, venison, chicken, quail, wild mushrooms, leeks and roasted tomatoes.
Fireside - North Fireplace
Ontario Fireplace
Rounding the corner you enter the Ontario Fireplace room.
On the menu tonight was a fire-roasted leg of lamb. The Chef cooks it slowly and deliberately positions the food at the right distance from the flame to cook it right. While we were waiting we struck up a conversation. He loves cooking over the open fire. He told us it’s all about the wood and getting it to the right temperature. Then you baste the meat with fresh herbs and seasoning. That’s what makes it taste so good.
Fireside - Ontario Fireplace
Lobby Fireplace
Last but not least you’ll want to save room for the Lobby Fireplace. Here you’ll find traditional Swiss Fondue desserts that you can make yourself. We especially liked all of the molten Swiss chocolate that you could dip everything from strawberries to bananas in. Some of the other amazing assortment of choices also included, pound cake, and Deer Valley cookies.
This luxury fine dining experience was truly an adventure. Families and kids of all ages will thoroughly enjoy themselves. If you’re on a romantic date please try arriving by horse pulled sleigh. For more information on this option, please ask your reservation agent at the time of booking.

London Underground celebrates its 150th birthday
London Underground
On 9th January the London Underground, the world’s first subterranean rail network, celebrated its 150th birthday. The once unthinkable concept of ‘trains in drains’ is now a celebrated engineering marvel and one of the capital’s most recognisable icons, stretching more than 250 miles and carrying over one billion passengers every year. But it’s not just the capital which lays claim to enviable engineering feats - up and down the country there’s a whole host of engineering achievements to marvel at. From the British Engineerium, which opens for sneak previews in Brighton this weekend, to the fastest car in the world on display in Coventry, VisitEngland takes a look at some of the best.
London Underground Oldest
The world’s oldest underground network, London - Dating back to 1863, the London Underground is the world’s oldest underground network. On its first day of operation the Metropolitan line carried a total of 40,000 passengers from Paddington to Farringdon in the newly constructed tunnel via Edgware Road, Baker Street, Portland Road (now Great Portland Street), Gower Street (now Euston Square) and King’s Cross.
The British Engineerium, Brighton - Steeped in history, the Grade II listed British Engineerium asserts itself as an impressive landmark in Brighton and Hove. The collection of Victorian bricked buildings and imposing chimney demands historical and architectural recognition.
London Underground History
The steepest funicular railways in England, Hastings - The East and West hill funiculars are superb examples of Victorian engineering, built to attract tourists and transport people to the glorious hills of Hastings. The West cliff railway, close to the ruins of Hastings Castle, was opened in 1891 and built by the Hastings Lift Company.
The fastest car in the world, Coventry - ThrustSCC is the current Land Speed Record-holiday car and is on permanent display at the Coventry Transport Museum.
The oldest surviving turning shed in the world, Derby - The crumbling remains of Derby Roundhouse, the oldest surviving turning shed in the world, have been restored into a truly unique learning centre.
The largest bell foundry in the world, Leicestershire - John Taylor Bell Founders has been casting bells in Leicestershire since the 13th century. In 1881 John Taylors cast the largest bell in Britain, 'Great Paul', for St Paul's Cathedral in London.
The oldest windmill in Britain, Buckinghamshire - Dating back to 1627, Pitstone Windmill is believed to be the oldest windmill in the country. Pitstone ground flour for the village for almost three hundred years until a freak storm in the early 1900s left it badly damaged. It was later donated to the National Trust and restored.
The world’s first passenger train, Manchester - Attend steam school and learn how to ride and operate the world’s first passenger train at the Museum of Science and Industry.
The longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain, Huddersfield - The Standedge Tunnel, England’s longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel, passes under the Pennines between Diggel and Marsden. Built over 200 years ago, the tunnel is nearly three and a half miles long and took 16 years to build.

Alaska Airlines announced today that Aaron Nee, 16, of Honolulu is the winner of the "Spirit of the Islands" Paint-the-Plane contest. His artwork will adorn an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft honoring the unique culture of the Aloha State. As the grand prize winner, Nee will also receive a trip for four to any of the carrier's destinations and a $5,000 scholarship.
Known for his artistic ability and interest in graphic design and athletics, Nee was informed by airline representatives that his design won the statewide contest during a surprise announcement today. The Kaiser High School junior is a nearly straight-A student and a decorated member of the school's Air Force ROTC program.
Nee's winning design displays a voyaging canoe depicting how Polynesians first arrived in the Hawaiian Islands, a bright yellow hibiscus (the state flower), the Hawaiian Island chain and the phrase "Spirit of the Islands."
Nee said he plans to invest his $5,000 for college and will take his family to visit relatives in New York, where he hopes to see snow for the first time.
The judging panel, comprised of Hawaii artists, educators and other local community members, carefully scored and selected the three top designs from more than 2,700 submissions created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The contest was sponsored by Alaska Airlines, the Hawaii State Department of Education and Hawaii Association of Independent Schools.
The public participated in an online vote of the three finalist designs. More than 7,000 votes were cast, with Nee's submission receiving 4,013 votes. Izabela Hamilton, a 12th grader at Seabury Hall on the Island of Maui, placed second for her design featuring a male and female hula dancer against a backdrop of ocean waves and windswept mountain cliffs. Sophia Cleek, a sixth grader at Kapolei Middle School on the Island of Oahu, placed third for her design depicting a voyaging canoe sailing around the Islands. Hamilton and Cleek will each receive a trip for four to any Alaska Airlines destination and a $1,000 scholarship.
"We're thrilled with Aaron's beautiful design depicting some of the most iconic features of the Aloha State and look forward to sharing his plane across our route network," said Mark Bocchi, Alaska Airlines' managing director of sales and community marketing. "We were awestruck by the creativity of all the designs that were submitted. We applaud Izabela and Sophia for their stunning artwork as well as the 10 honorable mentions whose designs stood out as the best from their grade level."
The honorable mention winners were also announced today and will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship each. Many of these designs featured the Islands' natural beauty, ocean and wildlife, and popular local activities such as surfing and canoe paddling. Other designs boasted Hawaii's unique geography and many designs depicted King Kamehameha I, who united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810.
"The ‘Spirit of the Islands' contest has been a wonderful partnership with Alaska Airlines and has provided a fantastic opportunity for some of the best student artists in our public schools to showcase their talents," said Kathryn Matayoshi, Hawaii State Department of Education superintendent. "Congratulations to Aaron and the other student winners who have made us all proud."

Airline Industry Has Safest Travel Record Ever In 2012
The global aviation industry reported lowest number of accidents involving passenger flights since 1945 making air travel the safest mode of travel globally. The year 2012 was an extremely safe year for civil aviation, reports Aviation Safety Network (ASN). The Aviation Safety Network recorded a total of 23 fatal airliner accidents, resulting in 475 fatalities and 36 ground fatalities. Both figures are extremely lower than the ten-year average of 34 accidents and 773 fatalities.
According to ASN President Harro Ranter, “Since 1997 the average number of airliner accidents has shown a steady and persistent decline, probably for a great deal thanks to the continuing safety-driven efforts by international aviation organisations such as ICAO, IATA, Flight Safety Foundation and the aviation industry.”
Not only this, 2012 also marked the longest period without a fatal airliner accident in modern aviation history. This record period of 68 days ended on January 30 with the crash of an Antonov 28. The Bhoja Air Boeing 737 accident on April 20 ended the longest period (632 days, since July 28, 2010) without an airliner accident killing over 100 people.
The worst accident of the year took place on June 3, 2012 when Nigeria-based Dana Air MD-83 crashed while on its way to Lagos, Nigeria, killing 153 on board and ten on the ground, ASN reported.
The Aviation Safety Network is an independent organisation located in the (professional) interest in aviation with up-to-date, complete and reliable authoritative information on airliner accidents and safety issues.

Norwegian Cruise • Breaway Fireworks Display
Norwegian Cruise Line is starting off 2013 with a "bang" by announcing that Norwegian Breakaway, the line's newest ship debuting this May in New York City, will feature an exciting fireworks show on every cruise. The environmentally-friendly pyrotechnics display will dazzle guests on the second to last night at sea each week, after the ship departs Bermuda during her summer inaugural season. Building on the electrifying theme of the ship's headlining Broadway show, ROCK OF AGES, the awe-inspiring fireworks will be the grand finale of a decadent 1980s-themed deck party and will be set to a specially-selected playlist of classic 1980s hits by artists like Madonna, Devo and Prince.
"All the incredible entertainment and amenities on Norwegian Breakaway are going to wow our guests," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line's CEO. "We wanted one additional element that would really blow them away and this incredible fireworks show is going to take the cruise to a new level of excitement." As guests party the night away at the high-energy party under the stars in the open-air Spice H20 venue at the aft of the ship, they will be transported to the 1980s, where music and fun reigned supreme. In a breathtaking finale, a mesmerizing color-filled fireworks show will light up the night sky, right above the ship. The fully-produced show is a visual masterpiece that is set to a playlist of classic 80s hits including "Come on Feel the Noise," by Quiet Riot; "Whip It," by Devo; "Cherish," by Madonna; "Final Countdown," by Europe; and "Purple Rain," by Prince. As the fireworks blast to the beat of the music, guests will enjoy an experience unlike anything else offered at sea on New York's ship.
The 4,000 passenger Norwegian Breakaway will arrive in her year-round homeport of New York City on May 7, 2013. The ship will begin weekly summer seven-day cruises to Bermuda on Sunday, May 12, 2013 and the fireworks will be held on the second to last night of the cruise, after the ship departs Bermuda. From October 2013 through April 2014, New York's ship will offer voyages from the heart of Manhattan to the Bahamas & Florida and the Southern Caribbean. To date, the company has revealed the ship's groundbreaking design, including The Waterfront and 678 Ocean Place; a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues on three dynamic decks that will create a whole new complex at sea that enhances guests' connection with the ocean. Norwegian Breakaway's entertainment will include three Broadway shows: five-time Tony nominated ROCK OF AGES; the dance sensation BURN THE FLOOR; and CIRQUE DREAMS & DINNER JUNGLE FANTASY. The famed comedy troupe The Second City, Howl at the Moon dueling pianos, and New York's own Slam Allen will also perform on the vessel. Celebrity Chef and Food Network star Geoffrey Zakarian will also debut his first restaurant at sea on Norwegian Breakaway: Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian.
The top decks of Norwegian Breakaway will feature the first Aqua Park at sea with five full-size water slides, including twin Free Fall slides, the first ever at sea, and a three-story sports complex that includes the largest ropes course at sea, a nine-hole miniature golf course, basketball court, rock climbing wall and more. The ship will also feature a rich mix of stateroom options including The Haven by Norwegian, comprised of 42 Suites at the top of the ship and 18 additional Suites located throughout the ship; the innovative Studios, designed and priced for solo travelers; the re-introduction of Oceanview staterooms, Balcony and Mini-Suites; along with Spa Balcony, Mini- Suites and Suites in close proximity to the spa.

The Deer Valley Resort • Park City, UT
If you’re looking to embark on a skiing holiday with the family or just setting off on an adventure to ski with friends then consider the Deer Valley Resort. It has a lot to offer. Getting there is easy. It’s located in the Wasatch Mountain range in the Big Cottonwood Canyon 36 miles east of Salt Lake City International Airport.
Convenient Location
We like the convenient proximately to the international airport due to the fact that other popular Western ski towns like Vail and Aspen can be challenging to fly into due to inclement weather. More than likely this scenario will not affect you flying in Salt Lake City due to the flat terrain and the great salt lake that's situated nearby.
Luxury Service
Everything about the Deer Valley Resort is luxurious and customer service is paramount to the corporate culture here. They operate nine luxury lodges and a signature collection of luxury private homes and condominiums. (Read the Sliver Baron Lodge review) Be sure to take advantage of the ski valet service. They’ll help you unload your car and put your skis in the rack too. Please also don’t forget about the complimentary ski storage service at the end of the day. It’s available at the base of the Snow Peak Lodge and is convenient for those who do not want to schlep their equipment into town or back to their room.
Best Ski Resort in North America
Deer Valley Resort was voted five years in a row as the best ski resort in North America by SKI Magazine. This place is big. It has six mountains and terrain for everyone from the beginner to the expert. In the grooming department Deer Valley ranks on the top of the list too. If you like skiing powder we’d recommend having a shaped skis for the ‘corduroy’ groomed runs and wider powder skis for the feshies.
Kids Love The Deer Valley Resort Too
There’s plenty of beginner terrain for the kiddies at Deer Valley Resort. You can enroll them in a world-class ski school where they’ll have a one-on-one experience with an instructor. We watched some of the kids zooming down the hill having a blast in a conga line formation. They were having so much fun on their downhill adventure that the cold was no concern to these little ones. Mom and dad will love that. They can explore all six mountains knowing that their kids are safe and having a good time.

Ski The Deer Valley Resort
At first glance Deer Valley plays with your visual perceptions of space. When we first caught a glimpse of the mountain from the Snow Peak Lodge it looked smaller than you’d expect. This perception vanishes as you exit the Carpenter Express lift. You’re now at 8,100’ and are able to see the enormous panoramic vista of all six mountains. Spectacular.

Follow The Sun
It’s fun to be a newbie and explore. We’d suggest following the sun if you’re an early morning raiser. Begin your day by taking some runs on Bald Mt. and work your way over to Flagstaff. Take a pit stop at the Silver Lake Lodge and check out the comfort food at the Royal café before heading all the way over to our favorite area Empire Canyon.
The Deer Valley Resort • Catching Some Rays
Empire Canyon – Montage Hotel
You’ll want to access the summit from the ‘Empire Express’ lift. You’ll be able to see forever on a clear day at 9,570’. Traverse over to the ‘Daly Bowl’ for some exhilarating wide-open terrain. If you find yourself at the bottom of the Lady Morgan Express check out the new luxury hotel Montage and the Vista Lounge and Terrace restaurant.
The Deer Valley Resort • Empire Canyon
Ski Hidden Jewels
At the end of the day we discovered a jewel of run called ‘Square Deal’. It’s often overlooked because it’s relatively short and accessed best by riding the Red Cloud lift. It was so much fun to carve some ‘S’ turns in the powder with my friend and look back up the fall line from down below at our run. If trees are your things then head over to the nearby woods in the Ontario Bowl where you can weave in and out to your hearts content. This was a blast and takes some skill and technique. Not for beginners or intermediates. Please.
The Deer Valley Resort • Skiing the Trees
Riding the Chair With a Celebrity
You never know whom you’ll meet at the Deer Valley Resort. On our first run of the day we shared a chair ride with Phil Mahre. He was on the 1984 U.S. Ski Team and won the Gold Medal in Slalom. When asked how the conditions were, he replied jokingly. “I’d ask for your money back.” We all had a good belly laugh. It was snowing like a banshee and the conditions were stellar. Phil and his brother Steve run a training center at Deer Valley. You can contact them at 888-SKI-TIPS or on the Internet at www. http://mahretrainingcenter.com
Deer Valley Lift Tickets
Deer Valley Resort limits the number of lift tickets sold each day. During holiday periods such as the week between December 25th through January 1st, as well as Presidents' Day weekend, the resort reaches capacity. Tickets can be purchased at several locations in and around the resort. It’s recommend pre-purchasing tickets online. Chairlifts operate daily during the ski season from 9:00 a.m. until 4:15 p.m.

United Airlines has unveiled its new United Club lounge in Terminal 2 at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, the first to feature a new design prototype that the airline will use when building and renovating lounges worldwide.
The 13,300 square foot United Club features a completely redesigned interior that reflects elements of flight and travel. United has outfitted the club with an expansive bar and lounge area, dynamic lighting, redesigned furniture and additional workstations and power outlets. The new and improved furnishings enable customers to relax or work with greater ease and comfort.
"The new United Club offers customers an improved airport lounge experience," said Jim Compton, vice chairman and chief revenue officer at United. "We are investing in our products, on the ground and in the air, to enable our customers to be more comfortable and productive."
"We are committed to improving the facilities our customers use every day," said Kate Gebo, vice president of corporate real estate at United. "In addition to redesigning our lounges, we are installing new jet bridges in Chicago, rebuilding the south concourse in Terminal B in Houston and building new maintenance hangars at Washington Dulles and Newark to improve efficiency and help us better serve our customers."
As with all United Club lounges, members have access to complimentary snacks, beverages and Wi-Fi. United is spending more than $50 million in 2013 to renovate several of the airline's 51 United Club locations.

Man vs. Horse Race, Powys, Wales
Britain is a nation of pea-shooters and cheese-rollers. Famous for their eccentricity, British people regularly find time to race snails, wrestle in gravy and snorkel in murky bogs - plan your trip around the quirkiest events taking place in 2013.
Up Helly Aa, SHETLAND, SCOTLAND, 29 January - Up Helly Aa is a tradition that originated in the 1880s. This annual event in Shetland is Europe’s largest fire festival and involves a torchlit procession, the burning of a Viking longship and a ceilidh which lasts late into the night.
Olney Pancake Race, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - The unique Olney Pancake Race literally stops traffic as energetic local ladies in traditional housewife attire (including skirt, apron and scarf), run through the streets of Olney.
World Pooh Sticks Championship, OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND - When Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin first dropped a handful of sticks from a bridge into a stream and rushed to the other side to see which came under first, who would have imagined this would start an annual tradition?
Maldon Mud Race, ESSEX, ENGLAND, 5 May - Join 250 competitors in this mad scramble through the stinking, ink-black mud of the Blackwater Estuary in Essex.
Cheese rolling at Coopers Hill, SOMERSET, ENGLAND, 27 May - A passion for cheese is a must for this annual event, which involves daredevils hurling themselves down the steep, grassy slopes of Coopers Hill, near Gloucester, in pursuit of Double Gloucester cheeses.
Man vs. Horse Race, Powys, WALES, 8 June - Starting from from the square in Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys (the smallest town in Britain), the race is run over 22 miles of mixed and very hilly terrain.
World Egg Throwing Championships, 30 June - Contestants have to construct a gravity-powered egg-hurling device to launch an egg to a waiting team member.
World Pea Shooting Championships, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, ENGLAND, 14 July - Tension rises as the World Pea Shooting Festival in Witcham grows closer.
World Snail Racing Championship, Norfolk, ENGLAND - For more than 25 years, the World Snail Racing Championships have been held at Congham, near King's Lynn, in Norfolk.

World Hen Racing Championships, Derbyshire, ENGLAND - The World Hen Racing Championships have brought an entire new meaning to "Chicken Run" – not to mention some egg-stra egg-citement to the Peak District.
Race the Train, Tywyn, MID WALES, 17 August - Race the Train event is a popular contest between man and machine. The race takes place alongside, as far as practicable, the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back.
The Garlic Festival, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND, 17 – 18 August - Garlic ice cream, jelly beans, fudge and beer are just some of the unusual garlic-based produce that can be sampled at the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival in Newchurch.
World Bog Snorkelling Championships, Powys, MID WALES, 25 August - Waen Rhydd peat bog on the outskirts of the smallest town in Britain, Llanwrtyd Wells, is home to this now-world-famous event.
World Gravy Wrestling Championships, Rossendale, Lancashire, ENGLAND, 26 August - The teams competing for the title slip and slide about in luke-warm gravy. Team members win points for pinning the opposition down in the gravy.
Egremont Crab Fair, Cumbria, ENGLAND, 21 September - Contestants put their heads through a horse collar and have a set time in which to contort their faces in the scariest, most grotesque, silliest expression possible. False teeth may be left in, taken out or turned upside down if desired.
The Porthcawl Elvis Festival, PORTHCAWL, SOUTH WALES, 27 – 29 September - Every September thousands of Elvis fans descend on the south Wales seaside town of Porthcawl for a unique celebration of The King.
World Stone Skimming Championships, Argyll, SCOTLAND, 29 September - Each competitor is allowed 3 skims using specially selected Easdale slate skimming stones. For a skim to qualify the stone must bounce at least three times - it is then judged on the distance achieved before it sinks.
World Conker Championships, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND, 13 October - The game of conkers has been a popular pastime of British schoolchildren for decades. Each player is given a conker attached to a piece of string and takes turns in trying to break their opponent’s nut using a swinging motion.
Golden Spurtle, Inverness, SCOTLAND - The annual World Porridge Making Championship is followed with interest by connoisseurs of Scotland's national dish across the world. Each competitor is required to produce at least 1 pint (200ml) of porridge which is to be divided into three portions for the judges to taste.
World’s Biggest Liar, LAKE DISTRICT, CUMBRIA, ENGLAND, 16 November - The annual contest is held at The Bridge Inn pub in Santon Bridge, a hamlet of the Lake District. The competition is held in honor of of 19th-century Bridge Inn landlord Will Ritson, who was famous for his incredible stories.

The new configuration with 19 seats offers flight guests even more privacy and provides direct access to the aisle from every seat. The majority of the seats also offer completely individual seating. In no time at all, the new seats can be fully reclined into comfortable beds to guarantee a relaxing flight. In addition the new seats have a massage function. Entertainment on board is provided by the Inflight Entertainment System via an individual 15-inch monitor at each seat. This gives guests a choice of more than 200 hours of entertainment including current box office hits, TV series, music and games, as well as providing a USB port.
“Looking after our guests on the first flight with our new Business Class was really something special. The new seats offer an even higher level of comfort. They can be reclined to be completely horizontal and provide guests with an excellent sleeping experience – almost like sleeping on clouds,” Senior Cabin Attendant Claudia Kienert says. “Our aim is to ensure that our flight guests leave the aircraft at the end of a long flight feeling rested and relaxed. We continue to offer first class, individual service to each guest in their seat, of course, and to make sure they have everything they need during the flight,” says Claudia Kienert.
airberlin Captain Mathias Berbuir and his co-pilot Jan Prämassing flew the Airbus A330-200 with the registration D-ALPD from the Rhineland metropolis to the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Flight guests in the airberlin Business Class receive an Amenity Kit containing high quality personal care products and useful travel accessories, which has already won the TravelPlus "Gold Award". Key West International Airport
KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Two major commercial air carriers have begun nonstop seasonal service between Key West and both New York City and Washington D.C.
Water-squirting fire trucks, a red carpet and a man blowing a conch shell greeted passengers stepping off Delta Airlines and U.S. Airways flights Saturday at Key West International Airport.
Delta Airlines is offering direct flights from New York’s LaGuardia Airport Dec. 29, Jan. 5 and each Saturday from March 2 through April 6. The 1,211-mile flight is the longest commercial route ever to serve Key West, Keys airport officials said.
Direct U.S. Airways flights from Washington’s Reagan National Airport are being offered once daily through Jan. 5, and continue each Saturday through April.
Southwest is to begin daily service between New Orleans and Key West on March 9.
By the end of November, Key West International had already passed last year's passenger count of 677,581, according to Peter Horton, director of Monroe County airports. Horton anticipates the passenger count to reach more than 730,000 by Dec. 31.
The airport also achieved point-of-entry status to Cuba from federal officials this year, which permits it to stage flights directly to and from the island nation that lies just 90 miles south of Key West.
Officials at one South Florida-based company, Golden Air Charters, say it has plans to begin charter service from Key West in 2013.

Moseying down Main Street in a Western ski town wearing vintage Tony Lama boots got me instantly into the holiday spirit. There’s light snow falling as we make our way down Main Street in Park City, Utah. The lights are twinkling. People were out and about doing their last minute shopping. It’s a delightful scene.
We’re on our way to dine at 350 Main. It’s an address and a restaurant with good karma. In a past life it was the home of The Golden Rule Mercantile Company, which was owned by J.C. Penney. This location was where it all started for the giant retailer.
Dr. Aaron Hofmann an Orthopedic Surgeon and medical device inventor out of Salt Lake City purchased the building seventeen years ago and renovated it. He kept the vintage tin ceiling and transformed the interior into a modern day Western saloon.
Our table is in the main dining room with floor to ceiling windows facing Main Street. We’re seated at a upholstered saddle-leather booth. It’s semi-curved with bench style seating and two bar-height chairs. We suggest being seated facing the dining room. You’ll be able to people watch and canoodle to your hearts content. If some friends happen to meander by, you’ll able to share a moment with them too. Please check out the contemporary art and catch the peeking views of the open kitchen. It’s all part of the show!
With the help of Executive Chef Carl Fiessinger the restaurant just revamped the menu. He’s a Low Country boy at heart and hales from Charleston, South Carolina. When we heard that the food was prepared ‘Farm to Table’ with a contemporary Southern Low Country flair our interest immediately peeked. We conjured up Pat Conroy’s novel ‘Beach Music’ and all the delicious meals the charaters made from the catch of the day.
The room was buzzing with a cool vibe and people were enjoying themselves. 350 Main is the perfect place to be seen in Park City and have a great time with family and friends. Josh Cowart the General Manger is a hands on proprietor and a consummate host. He loves people, food and the restaurant business. When he suggested that we relax and let chef Carl take us on a tasting tour of the menu we smiled with joy. Here's a sampling of what we were served:

The Woodstock Inn is truly the sweetest place to stay in Woodstock, VT. It's located right across from the famous town green, one of the oldest in the country and within walking distance of the town's many shops such the Vermont Flannel Co. (one of my favorites) and a plethora of other quaint establishments.
The Woodstock Inn and Resort
As you enter the Inn and at it's heart is a massive nine foot hearth with the largest logs I have ever seen burning steadily; lapping flames beckon you to stop and sit for a minute in the comfortable arm chairs. I warmed myself with hot coffee surrounded by the slight aroma of wood burning and just relished in the warmth and serenity. The decor and feel of The Woodstock Inn is actually quite unique and the ambience is soothing; it felt like I had chosen the perfect place to rest, restore and explore this beautiful part of Vermont. The Inn has both a rustic charm and a contemporary elegance. There is an intimate feel with a very happy and cordial staff. However, the Inn has the superb facilities that normally accompany a much larger hotel. The Woodstock Inn has its own lovely ski resort, (Suicide Six), three restaurants, two bars, a beautiful brand new 10,000 sq. foot spa, a racquet and fitness facility (with squash, swimming pool and tennis courts), a golf club, and even associated riding stables and trails. The recently renovated rooms and suites, some with wood burning fire-places, generally range from $150-$600.

The Red Rooster Bar
My room was beautiful, with a blended contemporary rustic decor that matched the hotel; the center of the king room was a stunningly crafted, classic, hardwood canopy bed dressed in a colorful handmade woven blanket. The bathroom was shiny, spotless, and furnished with organic Vermont made bath supplies and a sweet scented wick candle.

While the room and food were great, what I most love about the Inn and Resort is the feel of it as a self encompassing destination with true old world character. There are so many corners within the Inn where one can find comfortable spaces for reflection and conversation, sun rooms, a library, and little cushioned benches and love seats where you see couples playing scrabble, or kids enjoying a chess game while sipping hot chocolate and munching on home made cookies. You have everything you need within the facility or within a few minutes of Resort organized transportation.

Last night I met my sister at the more rustic of the two hotel's bars, the Tavern, for a pre-dinner drink; we sat next to the warmth of a wood burning fire as we relaxed and chatted. Afterwards, we made our way to the Red Rooster restaurant, the inn's award winning restaurant which uses locally grown foods to prepare its Vermont style classic American cuisine. Suffice it to say that the food was both delicious and delicate, flavorful and subtle, with a unique twist on classics. The evening's meal began with a few small bite size special treats from the chef including savory roasted heirloom beets, scallops with pulled pork Napoleon, and sweet potato apple bisque which was sweet and divine. For appetizers, we had the mussels and the charcuterie board with unbelievable prosciutto and country pate. For dinner we ordered the chef's specials, rack of lamb with potato and turnip au gratin and Day boat Scallops and Lobster with Butternut Squash Risotto with arugula and radish and a pickled rosemary relish. The lamb was amazing and the lobster was smoky and flavorful; the scallops were soft and tender on the inside and just crispy enough on the outside to lock-in their light but potent flavor. Dessert was a Blondie sundae with vanilla ice cream and a toffee crisp which was sensational. We also tried the flour less chocolate cake and pumpkin cheesecake - both quite good as well. Appetizers generally range from $12-$18 and main dishes range from $24-$35.

Following our rather extensive gourmet dinner and delicious wine, I ambitiously ordered a movie in the room, opening a window to the clear Vermont air and the occasional snowflake. In the end, the comfort and coziness of the bed and the lure of sleep won though and the movie was left for another time.
If you are looking for idyllic country elegance this Christmas season book a trip to this charming town and lovely resort. December 7-9 is Wassil Weekend in Woodstock which is named one of Vermont's top 10 winter events by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. The village of Woodstock will come alive with traditional Christmas festivities and decorations. Woodstock will be replete with music, craft fairs, holiday games and the culmination of the weekend is the annual parade with more than 50 horses and riders dressed in traditional holiday attire. Of course the nearby ski resorts will certainly be open then as well!
So stay tuned to hear about my excursions today to Simon Pearce, Sugarbush Cheese Farm and Shackleton's fine furniture and pottery shop, but in the meantime discover Woodstock on your own….once you are lucky enough to have found this special town you will want to keep it in your life. Each and every trip will provide new memories and rediscovery, but also opportunities to deepen existing traditions.
