The London Bar:
This space has been dramatically renovated since I last was there in 1992. David Collins has replaced the iconic oak bar with an open floor plan that is designed to welcome guests into a casual sophisticated space. The menu is filled with comfort food and traditional dishes that offer value. Guests often come here for a quick bite before attending a Broadway show or visiting the latest installation at MOMA. The patrons are hip and chic. The gentleman siting across from my booth was wearing a stylish pair of vintage jeans and a Robert Graham shirt with Gucci Loafers and Hublot timepiece. On the menu, I immediately zeroed in on the Harissa Crusted Rack of Lamb - $36. It seemed like a great value and I was curious to see how it would measure up to my market offering at Balducci's for $40. It was pleasantly surprising to see how generous the portion was. There were six ribs in the rack. Most fine restaurants will only serve three. This dish was delicious and filling. I’d come back just for this item on the menu and it was actually less expensive than if you made it yourself! We also sampled the London Caesar Salad - $12 with Romaine, Baby Kale, Chicory, Parmesan Crisp, White Anchovy and the Chocolate Passion Mousse Cake - $9 with Caramel Foam, Passion-Mandarin Sorbet.
