is a tiny lighthouse in the woods. Only you will know what takes place behind the imposing walls of the Secret Society Cottage, playing on the history of Yale University’s famous Skull and Bones secret society. Industrial chic is the guiding force behind Industry Cottage, which offers a modern take on the CT steel mill. From the tree trunk-crafted bongos to the entrance area crafted of wind chimes, the Music Cottage plays up its theme in a harmonious style.
Of the eighteen cottages offering unique designs and themes, there are two that are perhaps the most attention grabbing – Treehouse Cottage and Helicopter Cottage. The five-year-old in the heart of every traveler will embrace the Tree house. A flight of metal stairs takes guests to this unique getaway in the sky, suspended between several trees. Treehouse is a modern, steroid-enhanced version of the treehouse of your childhood.
The interiors are a bit “Boy Scout gone wild,” offering a seamless blend of rustic ambience with a cool, rock and roll vibe. It’s not every day that you can say you’ve spent the night in a restored Coast Guard helicopter, but at Winvian’s Helicopter Cottage, you can do just that. This cottage is a pure flight of fancy. The helicopter serves as more than just the focal point – inside you’ll find a fully-stocked fridge, television, and seating area. You can even hop in front and imagine yourself piloting this 1968 HH37 Sea King Pelican helicopter.
Indulging the senses is what Winvian does best, and this resort offers so much more than a display of architectural wonders. Imagine a five-star bed and breakfast and you’ll begin to understand the philosophy behind the exemplary service at this posh retreat.
The commitment to excellence and dedication to even the smallest detail is all performed behind the scenes, ensuring that guests feel comfortable, relaxed, and welcome, at every turn. Casual elegance is everywhere at the spa, where you’ll find soothing treatment rooms decorated with modern country flair, and at the restaurant, where jeans are welcome.
For Your Dining Pleasure
Fine dining is a hallmark of Winvian. Chef Chris Eddy, who earned his stripes under the tutelage of acclaimed chefs Alain Ducasse and Daniel Boulud, turns out artfully prepared and presented cuisine. You can even try your own hand in the kitchen at one of the resort’s cooking classes.
Fun Activities
The seasons inspire the available on-and off-site activities. There’s everything from hot air ballooning, horseback riding, kayaking and snowshoeing, and the surrounding Litchfield area is a treasure trove of antique shops.
Health & Wellness
Of course, one of the best ways to soak up the atmosphere is at the Winvian Spa, a highlight of any visit. Designed with a fresh, contemporary approach to country style, the spa’s seductive, yet soothing interiors are the perfect complement to the restorative and relaxing treatments. The comprehensive menu is a nod to the East with selections such as Reiki, Craniosacral treatments, and Ashiatsu massage, while the Moor Mud Body Wrap hints at the spa’s location in the former farm’s pig pens. Eve Lom and REN products are the foundation of many innovative facial rejuvenation therapies. The Forty Wink’s Suite, reserved for couples massages, is a cozy, intimate spot complete with a roaring fireplace.
Part architectural wonderland, part Eden, Winvian offers an experience to cherish. Let Winvian’s wit and whimsy win over your heart.
