Columbia Falls, don’t miss the Ruggles House (1820), a gorgeous Federal period two-story home with an astonishing flying staircase (without lateral support!), spectacular cornice and wainscoting woodwork, and original furnishings.

Approaching Bar Harbor
As we drifted closer towards Bar Harbor the road became more congested. But the scenery was transforming into high drama as a bald eagle soared above my head over the granite rocks of Schoodic Point on the northern fringe of Acadia National Park.
