OUR ROOM

The Barceló Premium Club suites are decorated with cool terra cotta tiled floors, sleek dark wood furnishings and splashes of bright island colors.  Ours was awash in shades of apple green and turquoise blue. We unpacked, opened the sliding glass doors to our private balcony and saw the hot tub. We smiled...

Parents take note: the family suites, complete with separate kids' bedrooms, are thoughtfully built around a Technicolor wading pool. In addition to the various water sports available, children (ages 3-14 years) will be sure to enjoy the "Barcy Club." Here, staff members supervise organized activities. This invaluable service enables parents to enjoy some quality adult time.

BÁVARO BEACH

This destination beach, situated on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic in Punta Cana, encompasses 2.5 miles of pristine white sands protected by coral reefs.  It's no wonder that National Geographic rates it one of the world's top ten beaches.  When you tire of relaxing under palm trees, enjoy some kayaking, sailing, or snorkeling.  If the music moves you, join in the group dance lessons by the pool. Go for it--you're on vacation!

DINING
The great thing about being a Premium Club guest is that you can dine a-la-carte to your heart’s content. The intimate setting of the VIP lounge was perfect for breakfast and we lingered over cappuccinos. The Miramar, another restaurant option, serves a lavish breakfast and lunch buffet every day. We never tired of perusing all the yummy options available.  Sitting alfresco, in comfy wicker chairs, we sipped ice-cold "Presidente" beers and soaked in the tropical scenery.

Dinner at the Palace evokes one word, "scrumptious!" There are a plethora of international restaurants to choose from. Kyoto's tableside Chefs entice and entertain while creating a delicious Japanese feast--right before your eyes. At La Dolce Vita, we ate pasta and gazed at glamorous movie stars immortalized in giant photos on the wall. We shared tapas at Le Fuente and fajitas at Mexico Lindo.  Wherever we dined, the wait staff was attentive, gracious and efficient. 

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
Après dinner, we grabbed a seat at Bar Higüey, a chic outdoor lounge. Candles flickered in huge wrought iron lanterns, the twinkling light reflecting in the pool. Magical… Lively sounds of the nightly show wafted through the night's warm breeze. The amphitheater's stage filled with dancers and local musicians, all dressed in vibrantly colored costumes. 

U-SPA & FITNESS CENTER
Barceló’s world class U-Spa offers everything from manicures to hot stone massages.  We enjoyed the privacy of the spa pool for some invigorating laps after a work out in the state-of-the-art gym. We hightly recommend an afternoon Swedish massage ($90) before cocktails.

ISLAND ADVENTURE
For a memorable adventure, sign up for the all-day trip to Saona Island.  The air conditioned shuttle bus picks you up at the hotel and winds its way through the major town of Higüey. Here, we took in the sights and sounds of daily city life.

Our first stop was "Altos de Chavon," a re-creation of a 16th century Mediterranean village. The village is perched high atop the province of La Romana and overlooks the Chavon River. We snapped copious shots of gorgeous scenery and poked around in the various museum shops.  

Continuing onwards to the beach, we boarded a speedboat for a fast and fun twenty-minute ride to the island. By the time we arrived on shore, the barbeque picnic was a welcome sight. We lunched on fresh grilled fish and chicken before ....
