Hard-a-Lee. Learn to Sail at Linekin
If you’ve dreamed of learning to handle a sleek one-design performance sailboat Linekin offers all-inclusive instruction on a Rhodes 19’. The renowned navel architect Philip Rhodes designed her. It’s a classic looking sailboat with a sound design and looks smart underway.  The perfect choice for families, it’s been the main stay for the last 50-years in regattas such as the Sears Cup and the Prince of Wales Match Races. 

What a treat to have access to this classic sailboat. Our instructor was patient and introduced us to the basics on how to set the main sail, jib and how to jibe. (The wind direction changes from one side of the boat to the other) Boothbay Harbor was the perfect setting to learn. The winds were blowing a gentle ten knots and we had enough speed to make jibing fun and exciting.  By week’s end, we were confident bay sailors and ready for Linekin’s weekly in-house regatta. It takes place every Thursday afternoon at 2pm. We came in second and enjoyed bonding with the other sailors staying at the resort. Lessons are available from 9-5 daily.

My Room at Linekin Bay Resort
The Cabins and Lodge Rooms were built between 1946 and the 1970s. There’re setup with either King or Twin beds and private bathrooms. Several of the larger Cabins had two bedrooms and a fireplace too. All the accommodations have decks with a full or partial view of the water or woods. 

The best thing about my room was that each night we were serenaded to sleep by  the waves washing over rocks down below. We also enjoyed the cool nights and the gentle breezes that played with the curtains as we sat and relaxed before bed. 

The room had a nautical cozy feel and was in Bristol condition. It was fitted with a King bed that had fluffy striped nautical pillows. There was a soft sea grass area rug too. It felt divine under foot. 

The closet was large enough to store all my personal items as well. Linekin is a place to unwind and unplug. There are no in-room phones or flat-screen televisions to distract you. It took some adjustment, but by the end of second day it was delightful to be off the grid. If you need to make a call or access the Internet, the cell service is excellent and we were able to access the resort’s complimentary WiFi with ease.

Another great feature was the wrap around porch. It’s the perfect place to gaze at the sailboats underway and the lobster buoys that dot the bay. On one occasion, we caught a glimplse of a lobster fisherman hauling in his catch. That was special.

Delicious New England Fare
The meals are hearty and satisfying.  We sampled and devoured the baked salmon, haddock, and clams.  Our favorite was the shrimp and corn chowder. The pot roast brought back memories of my Mom’s Sunday afternoon dinners. The chicken and risotto stuffing was filling yet light tasting because of its truffle sauce. The dinner menu always features at least 3 entrées. Talk about fresh, their weekly Tuesday lunch lobster bake is the ultimate Maine experience. It comes with all the trimmings: corn, potato, salad, mac and cheese, pasta salad and, last but certainly not least, Whoopie Pies.  This is a feast that even the ....
