Greenwich is an interesting town. Great shopping. Great food. Great hotels? The town has several legacy choices such as the Homestead Inn and Delamar, but if you’re looking for contemporary digs you’ve been out of luck up until now. The J House located at 114 East Putnam in Greenwich, CT recently opened it’s doors. It's contemporary decor makes you feel like you’re in one of your coolest friend’s living rooms. It’s reminds me of what Hollywood was like in the 1930’s. However, this place is tricked out with all the latest technology and creature comforts you can imagine. Even George Jetson would be blown away. Come along with us and we’ll check in for the night. We'll even get to use the complimentary in-room iPad!
Greenwich’s New Living Room Lifestyle
John Fareri the brainchild of The J House is uber creative and can execute on a business plan. However, it takes chutzpah to transform a dilapidated Howard Johnson’s franchise into a new chic gathering place. The focal point of the hotel is the warm and homey living room space located just off the main entrance and lobby. The bamboo floors add to the hotels green factor and make the space feel even larger than it is. General Manager John Sheedy said, “We tried to make The J House a place where people from Greenwich could come and feel at home and have a sense of community. It’s Greenwich’s new living room.” The space accomplishes this and more. People mingle and self-sooth on the oversized contemporary couches and chairs while sipping their favorite libations next to the eternally lit fireplace. It’s like being invited to an ‘A’ list cocktail party. Come on down and check it out for yourself.
My Room On Technology Steroids
The J House has a total of 86 standard, deluxe, and one-bedroom suites. All the rooms have high tech, triple insulated, sound reducing, glass. This cancels out any ambient noise from I-95 or the outdoor patio bar. The views from the rooms are 'urbanish', which is interesting since you’re in Greenwich, CT. The best part of the view is that you can control the Creston blinds while you’re under the covers. It’s all made possible from tapping on your in-room iPad. Every creature comfort including the temperature thermostat, lighting, and the 55-inch Samsung LED Mirror TV can be controlled this way.
All the bells and whistles are sure to impress the most discriminating luxury traveler. Please let’s not forget that our Standard King room was also comfortably appointed with a Serta pillow top mattress. The luxury linens were by Frette. The rooms at The J House score top points for comfort and are off the charts in the design and technology categories.
Luxury Bathroom Like No Other
Get ready to be impressed in the water closet too. Our bathroom had a privacy treatment that was custom sprayed onto the glass wall that made it semi opaque. It made the lighting more interesting and the room feel larger too.
The bath products were by L'Occitane and were placed in the marble Kohler rain shower. (I really loved the shower. It was truly amazing!) The loo is interesting. It’s also computer controlled. This Toto throne from Japan solutes when you walk by it! The lid opens and closes automatically and the seat is pre-warmed. Got that Howard Hughes germ thing? No problem. This state of the art loo can flush via remote control too. There’s also a mini LCD flat screen TV built into the vanity mirror. However, it was more interesting to relax in this space without any desecrations. A Standard King room is $219.00 per night. An Executive King Suite is $309.00
Dining
Chef Francois Kwaku-Dongo's Eleven 14 restaurant deserves it’s own special review. Please stay tuned because we will sample his seasonal and locally sourced American Cuisine offerings and have dessert at The Chocolate Lab, which features house made chocolates with cocoa from the farms of Ghana.
Meetings & Events
The J House can host your next meeting or special event. We especially liked the fully equipped boardroom. The back wall had a solid glass partition that offered an amazing view of the 2,000 bottle wine cellar! There were also three other rooms that are suitable for any business or social occasion and a private sequestered outdoor garden as well.
