Historic Newport Rhode Island was the epicenter of the gilded age in America. The colossal mansions on Bellevue Avenue are symbols of America’s rise to becoming a world power during the industrial age.Congressman John Winthrop Chanler and his wife, Margaret Astor Ward were the first to break ground and start a trend of over-the-top construction in Newport. Their home is now The Chanler at Cliff Walk and it is a tribute to Newport’s history and architectural design. You too can be apart of this experience. Wake up and feel at home in an authentic Newport mansion. Glide down the staircase like you’re the lady or gentleman of the house. Stay a while. You could get use to this lifestyle. Luxury.
The Chanler at Cliff Walk The Chanler at Cliff Walk has been restored to its original 1873 condition. The French Victorian style home sits proudly on five manicured acres overlooking the ocean. It’s 14 guest rooms and 6 secluded villas are equipped with gas fireplaces, flat screen TVs, DVD players, efficacy fridges, Jacuzzi tubs and wet bars. The in-room WiFi is complimentary. The guest rooms inside the mansion are decorated in themes from the English Tudor, Greek Revival and French Provincial periods. The Ocean Villa’s decor reflects the lifestyle on the islands of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island. The villas are perfect for a celebrity private get-away. We heard that Billy Joel likes to stay in the ‘Nantucket’ Ocean Villa when he’s in town.
Our Room The off yellow Mediterranean stucco walls made us feel as if we were in Italy. The room had spectacular 180-degree ocean views of Easton's Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The arched doorways celebrated your entry into the separate bedroom and the wrought iron queen bed made you feel like royalty. It was draped with a beautiful pleated corona, which hung dramatically from the high ceiling. The bed was adorned with a down comforter, pillows and extra high thread count linens. It was luxurious and comfortable. Although we didn’t call for room service it is available on a twenty-four hour basis. Your room stay also comes with complimentary car and beach butler service within three miles of the hotel. We love bathrooms with radiant heated floors. It’s a subtle luxury worth incorporating and the Mediterranean Suite didn’t disappoint. The warm terra cotta tile felt soothing underfoot on a chilly November morning. The bathroom was appointed with a Jacuzzi tub and a tricked out multi-nozzle shower. Usually the soaking tub beckons us. However, we just had to check out the shower. It’s a little interesting to operate even though guest services showed us how. Take charge and turn the main control with authority to get some flow started. The water will shoot out of three heads directed at the lower, middle and upper sections of the body. The water intensity could have been stronger, but we were on the third floor. Engineering may need to increase the pressure so the wow factor can fully be appreciated. Our suggestion is if you’ve got some extra time take a leisurely Jacuzzi tub. Soak and marvel at the antique stained glass skylight and the mosaic tiled nymph on the wall. Turn down service will also draw your bath upon request and sprinkle rose petals onto of the water for your delight. Romantic. Rooms range in price from $299.00 for a Manor room to $1,399.00 for a Renaissance Signature room. A complimentary full breakfast is included with your stay.
