Winvian Resort :

Winvian has to be the most enchanted property in the Relais & Châteaux luxury collection.

It’s located on a 113-acre family homestead in the Litchfield hills of Connecticut. The classic New England farmhouse still sits proudly on the site. Owner Maggie Smith has transformed the land into an enchanted world.

She decided to have some fun during the process and wasn't afraid of dreaming big. The result is an eclectic collection of storybook cottages in the Connecticut woods. They’ve been tricked out with every creature comfort and high tech gadget you can imagine. 

Driving past bucolic horse farms on your way to Winvian is breathtaking. Imagine yourself staying in the ‘Charter Oak’ cottage where there’s an old growth ‘White Oak’ standing tall inside.

Gather up your buddies for a bachelor party or treat the kids to a night in the ‘Helicopter’ cottage. It has the fuselage of a Coast Guard helicopter inside that will blow your mind.

Are you starting to get the picture? This place is cool and you’ll never have so much whimsical fun while you’re at staying at any other Relais & Châteaux resort.

Winvian’s Cottages
The eighteen cottages are situated on the resort’s rambling country roads. You can drive with your car up to them for easy access. Once you’ve checked into your new digs the main farmhouse can be easily accessed on foot or by riding the complimentary bikes that come with your cottage.

We’re checking into the signature Charter Oak cottage that has a country barn theme. However, the collection of cottages at Winvian has something for everyone. If you’re the Robison Crusso type then try staying in the ‘Tree House’ cottage or if music is you’re thing then there’s a cottage just for you too.

Charter Oak Cottage - $899.00 to $1,215.00
This cottage anchors Winvian to its farming roots. It’s constructed from classic red barn siding and has a cool reclaimed corn silo that now houses the cottage’s oversized spa and steam shower. Located up a curvy staircase is an intimate screened porch that overlooks the vegetable garden and orchard. It’s perfect for sipping a coffee in the morning or sharing a glass of wine while sitting in the comfortable yellow wicker chairs.

Attention to Detail
Inside you’ll love all the attention to detail. The oversized crown moldings, window casements, and baseboard treatments underpin the luxury country décor of the space.

Wet Bar
Just off the entryway is a wonderful little bluestone-wet bar equipped with an efficiency fridge. It’s perfect for a small parties or intimate entertaining. The top-shelf spirits are included in your stay too!

Living Room
The bar opens up onto a lovely ocher yellow appointed living room that has a comfortable leather sofa and two armchairs. The seating is all arranged around a wood burning fireplace and has sun-drenched views facing west through a set of set of French doors.

Patio
Through the French doors is a lovely bluestone patio. Here you’ll be able to relax and chill while watching the chef tend to his gardens.

There’s a Tree in My Room!
This cottage is spacious. It has to be. Its focal point is a large Connecticut White Oak tree that celebrates the ‘Constitution State’s’ Revolutionary heritage.

It’s positioned atop a fieldstone wall and sits in a circular planter. It’s no longer living and has been trimmed and naturally treated to insure that there are no free loading guests to bother you when you're cat-napping or racking up some serious zzz’s.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is slightly elevated above the living room. Ascend four elegantly lit steps to retire for the evening in your king size bed.

This room is spacious and soothing. You’ll feel right at home and as free as a bird here. You just might find yourself fantasying about living one day in a cottage like this. Reading a book while watching the fire and listening to Jazz from the high fidelity Bose speakers will make you feel like a grown up Internet gazillionaire. Press the remote and the TV will rise from its bluestone silo like a multimedia missile. Oh! and then there’s that tree. It’s surreal to see it majestically towering above you while you’re in bed. It plays whimsically on your sense of reality.

Planning on staying a while?  There’s a huge walk in closet with a digital safe and luxury bathroom equipped to the nines. You could definitely get used to living here!

Luxury Bathroom – Spa
The minute you step barefoot on the heated mosaic tiled floor you’ll fall in the love with this bathroom. It’s located in the cylindrical base of the reconfigured silo and goes beyond what we’d classify as a normal loo. It’s more like a luxury spa!
