Feng shui literally translates to “wind and water.” According to traditional Chinese beliefs, this delicate balance of nature appeases the spirits and insures good fortune. Prior to completion of the InterContinental located in Kowloon, a feng shui master was called upon for consultation. Today, this award-winning hotel is renowned for its favorable feng shui, and not only the spirits but each guest’s sensibilities are soothed and calmed.
Kowloon actually means “nine dragons” in Chinese and legend states that these nine dragons come from the mountains each day to take their morning bath and drink from Victoria Harbor.
InterContinental Hong Kong
With the InterContinental’s masterful employment of feng shui, the dragons are lured through the hotel via a wall of glass doors that allows the creatures to enter with ease. (Dragons, of course, can go through glass!). They then proceed majestically through the Lobby to the expansive plate glass windows to take their morning bath in the harbor. The windows serve a dual purpose as they provide guests with heart-stopping views from the moment one enters the hotel.
Mesmerizing In-Room Harbor Views
The InterContinental Hong Kong is renowned for its strategic location on the Kowloon waterfront with spectacular panoramic views of Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong Island and it’s convenient to the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Cultural Centre and the Space Museum. The hotel has 503 guestrooms and 87 suites; two-thirds of its rooms and all of its suites have a mesmerizing harbor view. Dining options? This property boasts the only venue in the city with three Michelin-star restaurants under one roof: Spoon by Alain Ducasse (2 stars), Yan Toh Heen (1 star) and the Steak House Winebar+ Grill (1 star). Throughout this year, the hotel has a program called Cooking with the Culinary Stars where guess learn to cook alongside these celebrated chefs.
Club InterContinental
I had the chance to experience Club InterContinental during my stay. The Club offers an array of services and benefits that makes this spot a haven for relaxing. After a day of intense shopping, sightseeing, and generally running myself ragged in this most cosmopolitan and exciting city, it was a distinct pleasure to be able to visit the Club Lounge, kick back and allow myself to be enchanted by the vista spread before me whilst enjoying an inspired Afternoon Tea.
The InterContinental Hong Kong has created lodgings of the most superior quality anywhere to be found– one where dragons are pacified and guests are kept in a charmed and enchanted state from the moment they arrive till they bid their fond adieus. It will be your good fortune to someday guest at this outstanding hotel.
