The World's Only Private Ski Resort
If you’ve reached that point in your life where hard work and a little lady luck have enabled you to save a few dollars, you’ll be in a position to become a member at The Yellowstone Club. The price of admission is $300,000 (plus you must own real estate), is as steep as some of the chutes Warren Miller liked to film in his ski movies. Only members, their families and guests are able to access this community and all its amazing outdoor lifestyle activities.
The club welcomes, on an average day, three- hundred skiers to the 140,000 square foot Warren Miller Lodge. Mr. Miller still lives here all winter long and invites people into his home every Saturday for stories and tea.
Family Friendly
The lodge is family oriented and kids especially like the basketball court, game room and movie-theater complete with popcorn and all the latest Hollywood feature films.
The first time I was in this space the fifty-foot ceilings and the magnificent stone fireplace made it hard to leave the breakfast bar and hit the slopes. It was awe-inspiring to connect with architecture, which balanced the energy of the mountain with the massive timber frame beams and masonry stonework.
Looking out the floor-to-ceiling plate-glass windows the blue bird sky beckoned us to The Lodge lift for a swift ascent up to the top.
Getting off the chair was reassuring, since the lift operator was there to greet us with a smile and a helping hand. As we skied off he said, “Hey guys you’ve got an amazing day! Have a great run.”
Amazing Skiing For All Levels
I immediately found my groove on Heaven’s Gate. It’s rated on the map as a Blue, for intermediates. The terrain undulated with a roller cadence and had flat and steep sections mid-mountain, which suited intermediate skiers.
However, the mountain is not just for skiers who like corduroy groomers. Extreme skiers and snow boarders are delighted to access the most difficult chutes and gullies off Ridge Road and Pioneer Bowl. Here you’ll be able to also access some of the best glade skiing in Montana. Woo Hoo!
The mountain trail system naturally takes advantage of the stunning vistas of Lone Peak, which towers over the landscape at 11,600’. It’s impossible to get lost at The Yellowstone Club. Just look up from any vantage point and you’ll get your reference by locating the peak.
Lunch at The Rainbow Lodge
After taking several delightful runs, it was time to take a lunch break and check out the newly renovated Rainbow Lodge. It’s conveniently located mid-mountain.
The lodge is constructed with old growth whitewashed logs. It made me feel like an old western pioneer. This wooden cathedral seemed like it would be still standing in the next millennium. And you’ll not have to wait for your server or food to show up for that long. Service here is impeccable!
I ordered a fresh Feta and Cucumber salad with a Cappuccino and couldn’t resist sampling the Japanese Udon-Soba, which included your choice of small portions of tuna, chicken, shrimp or beef. Yum!
