Ireland: Titanic Celebration to Launch in April
The Titanic Belfast Visitor Experience will open March 31, 2012, kicking off a jam-packed month of celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Titantic's departure from Belfast in Northern Ireland.
The Visitor Experience is situated on the former shipbuilding land of the Titanic and offers over nine galleries and a live undersea "immersive theatre," which dives underwater to explore the wreck (check here for ticket prices).
I'm not sure how I feel about "celebrating" an event that ended in such tragedy, however I do admit it would be amazing to learn more about the ship (how it was build, what the wreckage looks like, etc.) and to understand the impact its launching had on the town of Belfast (a one-hour flight from London).
Other April events and on-going activities include:
April 2: 100th Anniversary of Titanic Sailing out of Belfast
April 6-15: Titanic Festival
April 10-14: Titanic, The Musical (retelling of the Titanic's maiden voyage)
April 7-12: Titanic Light Show
April 12-13: MTV Rock at the Docks (concert featuring international performers)
April 14-15: A Centenary Commemoration (held in Waterfront Hall, a showcase of the city's Titanic story)
April 19-22: A Verbatim Play by Owen McCafferty (drama based on the verbatim testimonies heard at the Titanic Inquiry in Lond in 1912 following the sinking of the ship)
