(goût means “taste” in French), hints at what one can expect to eat here: inventive, yet delicious food, with Asian accents inspired by the vast Chinese community . Sometimes, creative cooking, like molecular gastronomy, is more about the “wow” than the “yum”, but here it is a perfect marriage of the two. Inside, the golden yellow dining room is decorated with modern art and lit brightly, a feature I’ve noticed in many Parisian restaurants (candlelit glow is good for romance but not for food presentation!) Start with a savory mille-feuille where layers of fresh herring and wasabi cream are stacked high. Their signature Pot-au-Feu, a traditional French beef stew, takes an Asian turn, with pork belly, bok choy, and a mouth-watering ginger-infused broth. For dessert, go for the classic Moelleux au Chocolat - molten-chocolate cake, or a Lemon Moelleux, which comes with refreshing rosemary ice cream. Start dinner as the French do, with an apertif, like a glass of Pineau des Charentes, a honey-like, fortified wine, which is hard to find outside of France.
SideDish: Chef Beaufront often collaborates with Le Fooding, Paris’ modern, eclectic answer to the somewhat stuffy Michelin Guide. For more dining tips, check out their website, www.lefooding.com which has English blurbs for non-Francophones. It brims with edible delights, from the everyday to the extravagant.
