Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
On my last full day in Barcelona, the sun is streaming though my window as the City awakens. For a City this size, there are not a lot of horns honking, people yelling or ambulances. After living in NYC, I found this to be quite pleasurable. Today I am going to venture on the subway to see Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. After a 5 stop ride on the subway, I turned left and headed to the most magnificent structure that only can compare to a palace with fountains and grandeur. It was breathtaking. The museum holds so much art that it would be very hard to do it all in one day and I wanted to fit in more, so I only stayed for a couple of hours. After leaving there, I headed to the GREC which, is where gardens abound and surround an amazing amphitheater. Just walking through brings you back in time and I could picture watching a production in a toga and a headband of leaves and flowers intertwined in my hair. Blinking myself back to 2014, I headed out to Olympic park to see where the games took place.
Teleferico de Montjuïc Cable Car
Everything in Barcelona is so well maintained and usually easy to find, that I was amazed that I actually did get lost although it turned out better than I thought. I have now been walking for close to 4 hours and all I needed was some lunch and a glass of wine, I thought I would never find my way out. I turned a corner and ended up in front of the Miramar Hotel, which is beautiful. Right below it is a cable car that opened in 1931 and takes you from the mountain down to the port where the beach is as well as the W hotel in the shape of a sail. As the cable car descends down the cable, there is the most incredible view of the City, the mountains and the beach. There are no seats inside the car, which allows you to take in all the views. It is so breathtaking and surreal that this view can be captured from this vessel. I wandered over to a nearby seafront restaurant and happily ordered wine and seafood paella.
Barcelona is an amazing city offering everything from culture to fabulous cuisine and shopping. Wine is usually only 3 euro by the glass and most tapas is not expensive either. I found a street with vintage clothes (and yes I now own a beautiful coat). By yourself, with a significant other or your family, I would highly suggest visiting this wonderful City any time of the year.
Travel Tips
Notify your credit card company you are traveling out of the country. I found out the hard way when I was not allowed to leave a restaurant since my card was cancelled.
Barcelona is known for pickpockets even though it is so nice there. Keep all your belongings close to you at all times or better yet leave them at home
